On Monday 11th June, Nandita Bhatia, former Assistant to the Loan Scheme, performed a recital for the Friends of Benslow in Peter Morrison Hall.
Having worked for the Loan Scheme for two years Nandita left to begin her Masters in Performance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Her offer of a recital for the Friends was particularly welcome and coincided very nicely with the 80th Anniversary celebrations of the Loan Scheme. Nandita currently borrows a Gragnani violin, made in 1781, which is generously lent by Mr David Pitman. The concert provided the perfect opportunity to invite David and his wife to hear the instrument being played, and to experience first hand how lending such a wonderful instrument can make a huge difference to a young aspiring player. Nandita is about to begin her final year at Trinity and is hoping to become an orchestral player.
In her recital, Nandita gave a lovely performance of da Falla's Suite Populaire Espagnol, an interesting group of pieces which required a great variety of techniques and different tone colours. She followed this with music by Lutoslawski, and finished her recital with a passionate and commited performance of the Elgar Violin Sonata. Nandita was accompanied by Lucie Czajkowska, also from Trinity.
